What is Pentesting?

Penetration Testing Definition: A live test of the effectiveness of security defenses through mimicking the actions of real-life attackers. A penetration test is normally the only security assessment that can link vulnerabilities together by exploiting them sequentially. This gives a good measurement and prioritization of risk. Penetration testing can give risk a new perspective and prioritize based on the end result of a sequence of security problems.
Penetration testing is used as a control assessment of legacy applications. It is a technique for vulnerability assessment which measures the feasibility of systems compromise and evaluates any related consequences basis. Penetration testing will only uncover technical vulnerabilities and cannot provide a holistic picture of information security management.

Why do you need it?

Who should perform it?

Even though the organization may have the capability to perform penetration testing with internal resources, third-party penetration testing should be performed to gain an independent view of the security exposure.
